I WAS PART OF A VERY MOVING AND INSPIRING AFTERCARE GROUP ON TUESDAY AND IT IS A REMINDER OF HOW IMPORTANT CONNECTION, INTIMACY, TRANSPARENCY AND SELF AWARENESS IS. Being able to share about your script and recognising what would send you back to using which was before out of awareness. From being superwoman and overwhelmed to letting oneself off the hook and reaching out and getting support. To not staying with an old belief of “I am only tolerated”. But letting others in and taking on board your importance and how you are regarded. Cared for and caring in a supportive and intimate way. Even when times are difficult when there is regret the constant work on acceptance and how hard this is. Our evolving self is a working process in recovery and in life.

That is a powerful response to being connected, belonging, spiritual and self aware. These groups can be so powerful and productive. I find that the intimate connection is so healing and allows people to feel their belonging which is intrinsic to wellbeing. When we know more about our life script and the drivers, messages and processes that are part of this. We can allow ourselves to “be with the Process” and be kinder of heart to the “I” self which invites our nurturing parent. Its a wonderful process when we get nurture from others. For example the “fellowship” “groups” Peers” etc etc and can also be giving to the self. With this there is less potential to compensate or substitute . Additionally, awareness on the dynamics that lie beneath and our scripts has the potential to reinforce our wellbeing.
I’m not too sure where this reply should rest with regard to your recent blogs. In recent weeks I’ve been reflecting on how my unconscious, and previously outside of awareness life-script drivers have impinged on the choices and decisions made, not only with regard to my addiction, but also my life interests, hobbies, activities and career paths. Looking back over my life, some of the above have included :- competing as a singer in “eisteddfodau” at a local, district and national level, performing in amateur dramatic performances, to be to the fore in the organizations I’ve been involved with, constant striving for improvement in marathon and long-distance mountain running and employment opportunities which brought me into contact with people, often in a leadership role. I now identify a common thread permeating through these which possibly highlights my unconscious need and desire to be in the lime-light, to be noticed, to be up front, receive affirmation and praise in order to challenge my script process of “being just tolerated”. Just struck me, writing this reply may well be more of the same! I’ll have to think about that one!
Its really interesting on how you have done your own reflection work and can see the connections emotionally. What you need and feed off which dilutes the “being tolerated” script. I think its so important and shows a really deep level of self awareness and understanding. I believe we never stop learning this stuff “about our own stuff”. Pardon the lingo .
